SWITZERLAND - IOM Signs
Cooperation Agreement
with ISESCO - IOM yesterday
signed a cooperation
agreement with ISESCO,
the Islamic Educational,
Scientific and Cultural
Organization.
The agreement, which
will result in closer
links between the two
organizations, including
information sharing and
joint projects, follows
a similar cooperation
agreement concluded earlier
this year between IOM
and the Organisation
of the Islamic Conference,
another leading international
Islamic agency.
The agreement was signed
in Geneva by IOM Director
General Brunson McKinley
and ISESCO Director General
Dr. Abdulaziz Othman
Altawaijri.
ISESCO,
which is headquartered
in Rabat, Morocco, was
created in 1981 by the
Third Islamic Summit
Conference to promote
cooperation between Islamic
states in the fields
of education, science,
culture and communication.
TUNISIA
- Sri Lankan Labour
Migration Experts
Visit - A group of
labour migration experts
from
the Sri Lanka Bureau
of Foreign Employment
(SLBFE) is visiting
Tunisia on an IOM-sponsored
study
tour this week. The visit is designed
to provide the group
with insights into how
Tunisia manages its overseas
employment programmes,
how the Tunisian diaspora
contributes to the country's
development and how the
Tunisian approach might
be adapted to Sri Lanka.
.
The
initiative, which is
funded by the European
Commission, will include
visits to various Tunisian
institutions including
the Ministry for Social
Affairs and Solidarity,
through the Office des
Tunisiens à l'Etranger
(OTE); the Ministry of
Employment, through the
Agence Nationale pour
l'Emploi et le Travail
Indépendant (ANETI);
the Ministry for Development
and International Cooperation,
through the Agence Tunisienne
de Cooperation Technique
(ATCT) and the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs.
The programme is part
